The olympics are a showcase for disciplined bodies with little or not extra cushion. I am watching the lean running machines of track and field tonight. Then come the commercials for Budweiser beer, being a "proud sponsor" of the olympics. I know it's good business for them, but does it send a funny signal?

It doesn't have to make sense -- just money.

Budweiser is everywhere. A few months ago I was on one of the islands in Chuuk (Truk) and there on this remote distant place I came across a 20-something man with the most elegant Budweiser logo tattooed on his shoulder. (It was hard to not stare.) And they don't even have television in Chuuk. I doubt they were paying him to be a walking commercial.
