Pray for Montecito

We were getting on a plane in Detroit to go to the funeral service for my wife's mother in Richmond Virginia. We'd been flying all day and my phone rang "What do you want from your house, the area around Montecito Covenant Church and Westmont College is being evacuated right now!" Brave friends of our went in and carried away what they thought was valuable and were forced by officials down the hill. Pray for the fire to abate and for lives to be spared!

As I've heard of the disasters in the US, fires, hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, I've reflected on our evacuations from Zaire and the losses. Traumatic as they were we did have the "luxury" of more time to decide what momentos to take and to help the kids choose what they wanted. Of course space was limited, but we had time to make choices. Debriefing afterwards was very helpful as we were encouraged to take note of what we had not lost--the biggest items being family and friends.
May the Lord give you the words and compassion as you love your friends in Montecito,
