I'm preaching on a familiar text Sunday, John 10:11-16. It's the "I am" statement of Jesus where he calls himself the Good Shepherd
. In the past, I focussed on his identity and what that means for us. But this time all the verbs jumped out at me: the gathering shepherd, the bailing hired hand and the scattering wolf. And me? I'm a sheep. I'm a sheep in movement. The question this text asks me is what drive my movement: the call of the shepherd, the disappointment with the hired hand or the fear of the wolf?
