I'm chained to the campus today during a 6 Hours With God prayer retreat. About 16 (because the number keeps growing) are spread out on the campus working through a modified Ignatian Prayer Retreat modeled on the Gospel of John. Every hour I ring a cowbell to signal participants back to the sanctuary for another sheet of instructions. Some find spots in the sanctuary in pews, others stretch out on their backs, still others brought beach chairs and found quiet, shady spots to do their own work.
My job is to be the keeper of the time and protector from intrusions. So I too read and pray, reflect and write, then wander as if on spiritual patrol to allow the others to shed themselves of all distractions and attend to their business with God.
